In an interview with Good Housekeeping released this week, Carole Middleton said:

I hope to see more of my family than I could last year, including, of course, my new grandchild.

This confirmed speculation that the Duchess of Cambridge’s younger sister Pippa is expecting her second child with husband James Matthews. Pippa’s pregnancy was first rumoured in December 2020, when a source close to the family told Page Six:

Pippa and James are thrilled, it's fantastic news amid a difficult year. The entire family is delighted.

Speculation intensified when Pippa was pictured out last week with what seemed to be a baby bump.

Pippa Middleton’s family

Pippa, who has worked as an author and newspaper and magazine columnist, married ex-race car driver James Matthews in May 2017. James now works as a hedge fund manager and Pippa and James welcomed their first child, a son named Arthur Michael William, on 15th October 2018.

James is older brother to Made In Chelsea’s Spencer Matthews, who is married to model Vogue Williams. Pippa and James’ kids therefore count the reality couple’s son and daughter Theodore and Gigi among their cousins, as well as the Cambridge children - Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Carole Middleton as a grandmother

Carole also revealed in the interview that she is ‘very family-orientated’. She said of her role as grandmother:

I want to run down the hills, climb the trees, and go through the tunnel at the playground. As long as I am able to, that's what I'll be doing. I cook with them, I muck around dancing, we go on bike rides.
