Heightening security across mainland Russia

Agentstvo, an independent investigative Russian media outlet reported on Monday 23 January that a ‘Pantsir-S1’ air defense system was mounted close to Putin’s secret palace in Valdai, in the Novgorod region.

The Pantsir-S1 is a Russian defense system that protects against incoming missile attacks or enemy aircraft.

The news comes after last week several government buildings in Moscow and Putin's official residence nearby, described as his second home, also received air defense systems, Metro reports.

The Putin regime has become increasingly fearful of strikes as late last year Ukrainian drone attacks occurred deep inside Russian territory.

The report said:

These air defence systems protect President Vladimir Putin and his family from a possible Ukrainian strike.

This conclusion can be drawn after the air defence system appeared near the Valdai presidential residence.
There are simply no other sites for protection there, except for the residence.

'All-out war'

The Pantsir defense systems include both anti-aircraft guns and missiles to catch incoming air strikes at a range of 7 kilometers, and aircraft at up to 20 kilometers, Newsweek reports.

Reportedly, across Russia, there have been also placements of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems which have a bigger defensive range than the Pantsir-S1.

The S-400is capable of striking aerial targets at a distance of up to 250 kilometers and missiles at a distance of up to 60 kilometers.

Analysts have been commenting on the recent moves of the Putin regime. Rebekah Irina Koffler, an expert on Russia, described the installation of air defense systems as Putin preparing for an 'all-out war'.
