On Tuesday, January 9, Bill de Blasio, Mayor of New York, published a document mentioning the obligation to install this feature in all toilets open to the public, whether for women or men, in the next six months. Bill de Blasio said about this measure, which he considers a 'big step forward': 'This new law will ensure all parents have access to this equipment in public buildings, regardless of their gender. Too often, fathers and parents who do not recognise themselves as men or women are excluded from the resources intended for families. This must change.' The mayor admitted that he had let his wife change their children's nappies in the past.

Rafael Espinal, elected municipal official of the law, was pleased that New York becomes the first American metropolis to implement this measure. This text follows a law, introduced by Barack Obama in October 2016, which required federal buildings open to the public to offer changing tables in their toilets.
