Missing French Toddler: Could the little boy Émile be stuck in a freezer?

Émile's disappearance continues to intrigue the whole of France. He disappeared on July 8, and we still don't know what could have happened to the 2 1/2-year-old boy. Émile had just been dropped off by hismother to spend the summer vacation with his grandparents in Haut-Vernet (Alpes-en-Haute-Provence) when he vanished a few hours later.

More than a hundred days later, investigators are still combing through all possible leads. This Wednesday, October 18, the experts on W9's Enquête Criminelle mentioned one potential lead that is troubling, to say the least...

Is Emile stuck in a freezer?

Since the beginning of the summer, as confirmed by the show's journalists, the gendarmes have been 'inspecting every nook and cranny of the hamlet's houses'. A search which, they hope, will be more fruitful with the arrival of winter temperatures. In the meantime, no lead has been ruled out, and the investigators are taking them all seriously. One of the experts working on the case explained:

Sometimes, it's gone as far as searching the freezers in the houses.

Nicolas Daguin, a journalist for Le Figaro, added:

...Freezers, because a child can decide to go and play, hide, and find himself trapped in a freezer

The search has been inconclusive so far.

A stalled investigation

It's a disturbing disappearance not unlike that of Estelle Mouzin, littleGrégoryor, more recently, 15-year-old Lina. In all these cases, despite the best efforts of the police, the investigation has made no progress. In the case of little Émile, the gendarmes deployed not only a dog squad but also drones. A suspicious slab was destroyed and a lake in the hamlet of Haut-Vernet was probed by divers.

On October 17, the police were at the home of the family of a teenager designated as an 'ideal culprit' by neighbors. The search lasted two days. But to this day, no one knows what happened to Émile.
