In August, Prince Andrew was served a lawsuit in the United States for sexually assaulting Virginia Giuffre on multiple occasions. The 38-year-old has also accused the royal of non-consensual sex that took place when she was just 17 years old.

Giuffre previously claimed Prince Andrew’s long time associate and known sex criminal, Jeffrey Epstein, trafficked her to have sex with the Duke of York.

No investigation in the UK

While the case is ongoing in the US, Met police have decided against investigating his sex abuse charges. Back in August, Dame Cressida Dick, commissioner of the Met, said that the matter would be thoroughly reviewed in the UK as ‘no one is above the law.’ However, on Sunday they announced that after concluding the review, they reached the decision to drop the investigation. They said:

As a matter of procedure, MPS officers reviewed a document released in August 2021 as part of a US civil action. This review has concluded and we are taking no further action.

Nevertheless, they have agreed to continue aiding law enforcement agencies with any investigations that are related to Jeffrey Epstein. According to The Guardian, Giuffre’s team is not pleased with their decision and are urging them to reopen the investigation. They told the Sunday Times:

Given the clear and compelling evidence implicating Prince Andrew, the Metropolitan police should reopen its investigation and stand by their statement that no one is above the law.

Denying everything

The Prince is continuing to deny all the allegations against him, and has even claimed that he never met Giuffre in his life. Buckingham Palace has also spoken out, saying that the accusations are ‘baseless.’

The royal has been getting full support from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, as she is reportedly funding his legal defence with her own income.
