Joao Micaelo claims to have gone to the same school in Switzerland as Kim Jong-un in 1998. Micaelo said he sat next to Kim Jong-un on the first day in class and did not realise he was the son of the then-North Korean leader, Kim Jong-il.

Alleged friend of Kim Jong-un makes startling revelations

Micaelo has made numerous revelations in interviews before, such as that Kim Jong-un apparently enrolled at the school under the name of Pak Un.

In his latest phone interview with Radio Free Asia on Wednesday 24 May, Micaelo claimed to have talked to Kim Jong-un on two trips to North Korea in 2012 and 2013.

He said that Kim Jong-un talked about his daughter and his wife when they discussed their families, but never brought up a son.

Who will Kim Jong-un's successor be?

Kim Jong-un’s recent public appearances with his daughter, believed to be named Kim Ju-ae, in tow, have sparked speculation that he may be preparing her to be his successor. However, there have also been doubts over those claims, as it was believed he had an elder son, who, in the patriarchal society of North Korea, would presumably be his true successor.

Critics argued he was merely using his daughter as a propaganda tool to portray an image of himself as a family man.

However, these latest claims could add weight to the theory that it is his daughter who will take over as Supreme Leader, if it is true that he does not have a son.
