In the 2017 series of the dating show, Love Island Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt landed the number two spot. However, despite her happy love life and second-place position, the humanitarian worker has had moments where she wanted to end her life.

She recently commented on how easy it is to experience a negative spiral on the How To Fail podcast: "You start to entertain thoughts about what not being alive would be like, even if it’s just letting that cross your mind or whether it becomes a more serious thought pattern.”

She claims that it’s hard to escape the negative spiral, “and it starts to become unbearable to be inside my own head all the time and I get completely trapped in it”.

Camilla appeared on the same season as Mike Thalassitis, who killed himself in March. Shortly before his death, another contestant from the show, Sophia Gradon, also ended her life.

The mental health issues surrounding the show worried viewers, but thankfully, the programme has added an aftercare system to help contestants after they leave the show. Want to learn more about how Love Island hopes to handle mental health? Tune into our video to find out.
