Maura Higgins, the 28-year-old model from Longford, is one of two new bombshells to enter the villa in a bid to shake up the show and recover viewings. However after a chilly reception, fans have taken to social media to scrutinize producers for airing the content.

While Maura attempted to enjoy her dates with original islanders, Tommy Fury, Danny Williams and Michael Griffiths, the girls taunted her from the balcony above reminding viewers of scenes better-suited to the playground than the Love Island villa.

One fan wrote on Twitter, “For all the mental health conversations that happen around Love Island, the girls inside are some of the most unnecessarily mean and intimidating bullies tonight”.

Another chimed in to highlight the hypocrisy of some contestants, “Funny these same girls in 3 months time will be all over Insta and Twitter preaching about Mental Health and online Trolls yet act like 12 year old school bullies. Stupidity at its finest.”
