Joe Garratt Refuses To Apologise For His Actions In The Villa

This week, Joe Garratt has faced one of the biggest public backlashes in Love Island history - but in his first post-villa interviews he's doubled down and refused to apologise for the 'controlling' behaviour that viewers have perceived him to be guilty of.

After coupling up with stunning model and surfer Lucie Rose Donlan on Day 1, everything seemed to be going very well for Joe Garratt. However, when boxer and late arrival Tommy Fury threw a spanner in the works by picking Lucie for his date on entering the villa, things started to go wrong as Joe became upset with Lucie, accusing her of being untrustworthy.

Whilst Joe and Lucie reconciled, with the surfer choosing him at the second recoupling, viewers complaints about his behaviour escalated - as Ofcom received hundreds of complaints about his actions.

Meanwhile, domestic abuse charity Women's Aid made a statement - praising Love Island fans for challenging this kind of behaviour, saying: 'Abusive relationships often start off with subtle signs of control, so it’s important that it is recognised at an early stage. Love Island viewers are now very vocal in calling out unhealthy behaviour between couples on the show, and this is a positive development.'

However, other viewers, along with Joe's friends and family, have blamed the show's producers for portraying him in a bad light - pointing out the fact that we only see one hour of edited highlights from each day - and suggesting that Joe has been misrepresented.

In his first interviews since leaving the villa, Joe has spoken out for himself for the first time - revealing that he had no idea of the way his actions were being portrayed whilst he was still on the show.
