With the producers under pressure to maintain a strict duty of care for the contestants, there were rumours that Casa Amor would be axed from this year's season of Love Island. Last year, OFCOM received over 2000 complaints about the producers' 'emotional abuse' of Dani Dyer when she was shown footage of Jack Fincham's ex Ellie entering Casa Amor whilst she was still in the original villa.
In their complaint to OFCOM, one viewer wrote: 'This is emotional abuse and abuse of power. It is particularly unforgivable given the recent suicide of a previous Love Island contestant and the current debate about mental health in young people on online bullying.’
Show insiders also suggested that producers were considering axing Casa Amor this series for fears that it would be too predictable after its previous two outings. A source told The Sun: 'Love Island bosses are aware that fans of the show are hoping for new and bigger twists this summer. Casa Amor was the ultimate test for islanders in their new romances – and viewers were left on the edge of their seats as producers teased potential betrayals and heartbreak.
But after two years there are concerns the rival villa won’t have the same impact and that new islanders who’ve watched the show will see it coming.'
However, it has now been revealed that we WILL be seeing the return of Casa Amor next week - with the current boys and girls split up between the two villas to meet 12 new sexy singles. Will any of them be tempted? Will we see any iconic moments like Georgia's turn last year when Josh walked back into the villa with Kaz? We'll have to wait and see!
For now, check out the video above for all the details on this year's Casa Amor!
