McDonald's customers 'in disbelief' after realising the price of a slice of cheese in their burger

Gone are the days when fast-food was considered cheap and affordable. Many foodies have pointed out that McDonald's and other brands have been sneakily raising prices without you noticing. Earlier, McDonald's also announced price hike of old menu items, and changed the price of their 99p coffee.

McDonald's customer left shocked by bill

A McDonald's customer upset over menu prices at the fast-food restaurant took to Reddit to express their discontent. Their post says,

When did a slice of cheese become more expensive than the whole burger? I want an inquiry

The customer posted a photo of the McDonald's menu which shows prices of different items, and displays the price of a Hamburger as $2 while the price of a Cheeseburger is more than double that, at $4.25.

Needless to say, fans were not happy with the detail. One upset customer commiserated,

Whats the point of Maccas if it aint cheap...

Another chimed in saying,

Don't go to Maccas if you want cheap food.

McDonald's response to the post

There were other McDonald's fans who quickly pointed out that the low cost of the Hamburger is due to a promo. One such comment stated,

Hamburger is on the loose change menu promotion. Cheeseburger is not.

Another wrote,

The $2 Hamburger is a promotion. The $4.25 Cheeseburger is regular price.
What happens if you order a Hamburger + cheese.

To this, a Redditor responded saying,

It doesn't let you do that and i think you can only add extra sauce or mustard from memory. Whoever designed the app did a better job than the KFC one which has a few possible hacks.

A McDonald's spokesperson told Yahoo News Australia,

The Hamburger is $2 on McDonald’s Loose Change Menu. Our Loose Change Menu offers Macca’s favourites for less year-round, including the classic Hamburger, Fries, Chicken McNuggets, Sundaes and more. This is part of our commitment to providing great value for our customers.
Outside of the Loose Change Menu (which is available between 10.30am until midnight), the Hamburger is approx. 0.75 cents less than the Cheeseburger, although prices can vary slightly restaurant to restaurant.
