A McDonald’s Happy Meal ended not so happily for the family of Upper Darby’s Angela Greene. Happy Meal with shards of glass inside

According to Philly Mag, Greene and her daughter went to pick up her 4-year-old granddaughter from the pre-school. They stopped at the McDonald’s on 69th Street in Upper Darby to get some food for the child and returned home.

Upon getting back home, as the child was going to open her Happy Meal to eat it, she heard some noise and thought it must be the toy inside.

Greene is quoted by Philly Mag as saying,

I heard some clinking in the Happy Meal box but just thought it was the Happy Meal toy.

When she peered inside the box, she was absolutely shocked at what she saw: there were shards of glass inside the box. The grandmother said,

It was insane. Thankfully, she didn’t ingest.

Greene drove back to the McDonald’s to report the matter. One employee told her that the restaurant was broken into the night before and the shards of glass might have fallen into the Happy Meal boxes that way.

The McDonald’s employee told Greene,

I didn’t think to throw away the boxes

Philly Mag reached out to the McDonald’s restaurant in question and they confirmed Greene’s version of the story. McDonald’s regional manager has since provided the assurance that all of the boxes have since been thrown away.

McDonald’s statement to Philly Mag states,

We were alarmed to hear of this matter and took immediate steps to ensure Happy Meal boxes were discarded and communicated directly with the customer at the restaurant. Providing safe, high-quality food is always our priority, and we have taken steps to avoid something similar happening in the future.

Upper Darby McDonald’s also replaced the 4-year-old’s Happy Meal.
