We don’t always drink enough water. But in the summertime dehydration can set in quite quickly. With the body being composed of 60% water, the many surprising symptoms are often not long in coming on.
One of the first things impacted by a lack of water is the brain.
‘When you’re not drinking enough water, the connections in the brain aren’t made as well and the cells begin to weaken, not to mention the blood begins to thicken and doesn’t circulate as well, and no longer oxygenates the brain properly,’ says Dr. Thomas Kassab to the French newspaper Le Figaro.
The consequences? Not only do you have trouble thinking and concentrating, but your mood suffers and you begin to suffer from headaches.
Consequences affecting your… makeup?
Another surprising symptom? You blink more frequently. This natural reflex is done when the eye needs to moisten itself. So if your eyelids are lowering themselves over your eyes more often than usual, it means they are running low on water!
If you aren’t drinking enough water, the consequences are quickly noticeable on your skin, starting with your makeup. If you cannot get your foundation or finishing powder to hold properly, without a doubt you’re dehydrated, since the lack of water impacts the dermis and the epidermis. When dehydrated, the skin cells are no longer well sealed together. As a result, the skin tightens, small wrinkles appear at the corners of the eyes and mouth and so the makeup does not fixate.
So, if you have any of these symptoms, drink more water!
