Nestlé recall infant formula that could contain choking hazard

By Lola Bee

A product recall notice has been issued for SMA Wysoy Infant Formula after some cans were found to contain pieces of blue plastic.

Nestlé have recalled three batches of baby formula as a precautionary measure after pieces of blue plastic were found in some cans of the product. These pieces of plastic, which come from the material used to make the scoops, present a choking hazard. The affected product is SMA Wysoy Infant Formula 800g.

The batches affected by the recall are 025057651Z, 025057652Z, and 025157651Z. These batches have the best before dates of either June 2022 or September 2022. The batch code can be found printed on the base of the formula can. Only the batch codes mentioned are affected by the recall.

What should you do if you bought this product?

If you find that you have one of the affected batches, you should not feed this to your baby. Instead, you can contact the SMA Careline on 0800 0 818180 (from the UK) or 1800 931 832 (from Ireland) in order to arrange a full refund. They will also be able to answer any queries you may have about the recall.

In the official consumer recall notice issued by Nestlé, the company apologised for the inconvenience, writing:

The safety and quality of our products are non-negotiable priorities for our company. We sincerely apologise to our consumers for the inconvenience caused by this voluntary recall.

What is a product recall?

Product recalls happen when a safety risk is found with products. Customers are advised not to consume the product and are offered a full refund. This sometimes happens due to a contamination risk, for example if pieces of plastic or metal are found inside food. Incorrect allergy information can also lead to product recalls, to avoid endangering people with allergies.
