11 Tips to keep your vagina clean and healthy

Poor vaginal health not only leads to internal complications but also affect your sex life! That’s right! It could lower your sex drive and make your orgasms a far-fetched dream. Well, don’t stress! Following a few tips can help you keep your vagina clean and healthy.

Don’t Douche

Douching is a big no-no! When you douche, healthy bacteria get stripped off your vagina, which changes the pH level of your vagina and makes it more prone to infections. Vaginas balance good bacteria and pH levels on their own.

Naked is the new healthy

Sleeping naked is healthy for your vagina. It lets your vagina breathe. Regardless of what undies you wear all day, sleeping naked is not only better for your vagina but also quite liberating!

Eat right

Your vagina is what you eat, yep, that’s right! What you eat affects the smell of your vagina. For instance, pineapples can make the vagina smell or taste sweeter. Additionally, high probiotic content helps infections and keeps the pH level in check.

No soaps

Vaginas are independent organs that clean themselves on their own. So there’s no need to use soaps made of harmful chemicals that would only cause irritation and mess with the natural balance of your vagina.

No scented products

Your vagina is not supposed to smell like roses! It has a natural scent and is affected by what you eat. Do not fall for scented perfumes, tampons or soaps made for vaginas, as they might cause irritation and infection. Also, steer clear of scented laundry detergents when it comes to washing your undies.

Wear cotton undies

Cotton is the most breathable cloth material and dries faster than any other cloth. Make sure to wear cotton undies all the time. Avoid wearing thongs as they are close-fitted and heightens the risk of UTIs.

Do not wear pads/tampons for too long

Wearing pads or tampons longer than needed can lead to bad odour, skin rashes and even infections in some cases. Ideally, they should be changed every 4-6 six hours for better vaginal health.

Practice safe sex

Well, this is a no brainer. Always use condoms to avoid unnecessary trouble. They are the most effective ways to prevent STIs and infections.

Pee after sex

Peeing after sex is like a cleansing act. It helps eliminate any risks of UTI and lessens the possibility of any bacteria multiplying in your body.

The right way to wipe

Wiping, like sex, should always be from front to back. If you do it the other way round, you increase the risk of dragging bacteria from the anus to the vagina.

Avoid shaving pubic hair

Although this is a common practice now, pubic hair acts as a safety net for your vagina. They protect it from extra bacteria and eliminate friction issues and sweating.
