Rice in the microwave

You can cook any type of rice in the microwave. Basmati, round, long grain, Thai… It’s up to you, and will only depend on what kind of meal you are preparing.

It’s actually quite simple to make rice in just a few minutes in the microwave:

You will need to work on a 1 part rice, 2 part water scale; for example if you’re using 100g of rice, you will need 200ml of water.

  • Pour the rice into a dish with the water.
  • Cook the rice on full power in the microwave for 10 minutes.
  • Stir the rice every 3 minutes with a spoon.

And voilà! You’re done!

Once you have the method down, you will be able to adapt and tweak the recipe to make it more than just a bowl of cooked rice. There are lots of meals that you can cook in the microwave without needing to use an oven or the pan.

For example, you could add small pieces of peppers and a tomato sauce to make southern flavoured rice and it is also possible to make Cantonese rice very quickly in the microwave. To do this, all you will need to do is add frozen peas to the bowl and while the rice is cooking, you can prepare the omelette and cut up some ham to throw in. Then just mix everything together and you’re all good to go!
