Because in reality, it is partly thanks to Maggie Smith, who played Professor Minerva McGonagall in the films, that Daniel Radcliffe even got an audition! It is indeed the actress who mentioned the young actor’s name to director Chris Columbus when Daniel Radcliffe was only 10 years old.

She knew him very well because she had already discovered his acting skills on the set of the BBC mini-series David Copperfield, which the boy and the actress were both in together. The rest, as fans know, is history. It did not take long for the director to discover that Radcliffe was perfect for the role, and gave him the chance to play the hero in the film.

The funny thing is that Professor McGonagall's character also has certain complicity and affection for Harry in the movies. They really were predestined to act together! Since the end of the Harry Potter saga, Daniel Radcliffe has starred in numerous interesting projects, from playing Allen Ginsberg to Igor in a Victor Frankenstein film.
