In the masterpiece of cinema Titanic, Jack and Rose are fictional characters. But many others were real, and the whole production of the film worked to make the actors resemble as close as possible to the real people.
Before becoming one of the most popular and profitable films on the planet, Titanic was a revolutionary ocean liner for its time. Built in 1907, this ship belonged to the White Star Line and was supposed to reach New York from Southampton in the United Kingdom. Its sinking in 1912 became legendary as one of the greatest maritime disasters of the 20th century: more than 1500 people died. Although it was said to be unsinkable, this luxurious liner, the largest ever built, struck an iceberg and sank on its very first voyage.
Fictional characters... and real ones!
James Cameron's eponymous film, released in 1997, made the Titanic a true legend. The romance between Rose and Jack, played by Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio, left its mark on the hearts of all spectators. The film won 11 Oscars and 4 Golden Globes.
Although the romance between the two lovers is totally fictional (because they never existed), other characters in the film are quite real! To pay tribute to them, James Cameron insisted that the actors should be as similar as possible to their historical counterparts. Discover them in our gallery below!
