This circus elephant was finally saved after 53 years of abuse

Rhea, an elephant, spent 53 years in a circus and suffered from abuse and mistreatment After finally being taken to an association to care for her, this is her story.

An unexpected rescue

This elephant was rescued by the Wildlife S.O.S India organisation from mistreatment in a circus in 2015. She was taken from the place where she was abused, but she was then left alone and totally lost in her new surroundings...

The association unfortunately did not have the necessary documents to take her to the two other elephants she was supposed to stay with... That's why Rhea found herself alone. The members of the association were heartbroken when they had to leave her, but they kept fighting and finally got the necessary papers!

A happy ending

A few months later, the association was finally able to secure her release, and Rhea got to know Mia and Sita, her two new companions in her new home. These two other elephants had also suffered the same abuse throughout their lives and were living in a rescue center run by the association.

Rhea has since been cared for and is now in perfect health! She is now enjoying her happy days of freedom. A well-deserved retirement after 53 years in the human entertainment service...
