Have you started your zero waste journey and you can no longer do without your reusable bottle? This is everything that you shouldn't do with it. Take note!
1. Not washing your bottle regularly
You may not know it, but even if a reusable bottle reduces its ecological impact, it can also be hazardous to your health. According to Leslie Reichert, a cleaning expert interviewed by Apartment Therapy, these bottles can contain many bacteria. According to her, it is essential to clean your bottle after each use.
'It may only contain water, but bacteria and germs reproduce in damp and dark environments, like inside a bottle,' she said.
How do you clean it?
Cleaning it is very simple: you can either fill it with hot water and a little soap or mix white vinegar with hot water and let it do its work. Moreover, if you notice that several elements on your bottle are detachable, remember to clean them as well, since germs can form even in areas that are difficult to reach.
2. Closing it when it is empty
As soon as your bottle is empty and you are not going to use it until the next day, for example, remember to rinse it and leave the lid open. The reason? This allows it to be ventilated and prevents germs from forming on the wet sides.
3. Putting it in the dishwasher
Finally, avoid putting it in the dishwasher. It may seem more practical, and yet it should be avoided. Why? Simply because the appliance could accelerate the deterioration of your bottle. It is, therefore, better to wash it by hand.
