Real bodies first

The star was celebrating her 30th birthday with close friends in Italy when she stopped to share her body-positive message. Her latest post on Tik Tok showcased Selena in a bathing suit using a popular audio that says, 'I'm not sucking sh*t in! Real stomachs are coming the f*ck back, okay?'

Body positivity hero

With over 4 million likes, the audio and video have gone viral for all of the right reasons. Having grown up in the spotlight, Selena is no stranger to criticism about her body. According to The Independent, the negative attention on her body traces back to 2015 with critics pointing out her weight gain. While she was able to channel the negativity into her music back then, she’s since had to make subtle nods to the haters in her social media. That same year, she posted a racy bikini picture on Instagram and set the caption as:

I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove.

Comfortable in her skin

This isn’t Gomez’s first video addressing body image. Back in April 2022, Selena posted a video of her ordering food and reiterated that she is ‘perfect’ the way she is.

Gomez has always spoken candidly about her body image and confidence. In June, she told Glamour UK:

Self-confidence is still something I work on daily, but when I stopped trying to conform to society’s unrealistic standards of beauty, my perspective entirely shifted.

Selena has consistently used her platform to continue the conversation about mental health, body image, and body positivity all of which continues to be an important discussion.
