Here lies Queen Elizabeth II

Queen Elizabeth II was heavily invested in her after-death preparations, she wanted things in a certain way and each of them had a special meaning. Queen Elizabeth II is buried alongside her husband Prince Philip and her parents – Queen Elizabeth and King George VI.

CBS News confirms she’s interred in the King George VI Memorial Chapel, which is a part of St George's Chapel in Windsor. Buckingham Palace shared a photo of the burial place and the statement from the royal family said:

The stone is made of hand-carved Belgian black marble with brass letter inlays, to match the previous ledger stone installed in the Chapel.

The original stone with the names George VI and Elizabeth carved in gold lettering was removed, and a new black stone slab was installed on the floor in its place. The new stone now has inscriptions that read:

George VI 1895-1952, Elizabeth 1900-2002 followed by a metal Garter Star and then it reads Elizabeth II 1926-2022 and Philip 1921-2021.

The Order of the Garter, which calls St. George's Chapel its spiritual home, had all four of the royals as members. To complement the prior ledger stone, the stone is composed of hand-carved Belgian black marble with brass letter inlays.

When and how can people visit it?

The Sun reports the chapel will reopen for the public next week and people can visit the King George VI Memorial Chapel. It will be open to the public six days a week, except for Sunday when it’s only open for worshippers.

According to the website, the entry to the castle is £26.50 on weekdays and £28.50 on weekends to see the burial place.
