New revelations about Princess Diana’s affair with James Hewitt
A new Channel 5 documentary on the Princess is set to air next week, which is understood to reveal more information on this affair. Princess Diana and James Hewitt were romantically engaged for 5 years from 1986 and 1991, reports The Independent.
The affair has often been one of the biggest scandals of the Royal Family. Now, The Express confirms that new revelations about this affair may be revealed by one of Diana’s former bodyguards.
Ken Wharfe, Diana’s personal protection officer from 1987 to 1993, is now going to appear in the documentary where he has made claims about her affair with James Hewitt. The former royal bodyguard told Secrets of the Royal Palaces:
She told me in short about the problems with her marriage with Camilla always being there. Suddenly to hear it in full verse from the Princess of Wales was quite extraordinary.
Ken claims the Princess confided in him about the distress she suffered from Charles and Camilla’s relationship. He added:
I found I understood this woman much more as a result of this discussion because it did help me for example to police the occasions she met James Hewitt at his mother's house in Devon.
It is understood the new claims made by Ken are going to be a shock for Prince Harry and William - who recently attended the Diana Legacy Awards.
What is James Hewitt doing now?
Princess Diana’s affair with James Hewitt made him the talk of the town at one point, however, over the years his status and reputation have deteriorated. James served in the armed forces just like his father and retired as a Major. Ever since his retirement, he has been rarely seen in the news. Most recently, he appeared on Gordon Ramsay’s reality cooking show Hell’s Kitchen in 2004.
James eventually moved to Marbella, Spain and opened a high-end bar named The Polo House in 2009. The bar served al fresco dining, cocktails and light bites but it was closed four years later in 2013.
A few years ago, Daily Mail revealed that Diana’s former lover then moved back to Devon, where his mother lives, and now works as a £4,000-a-year gardener. According to the publisher, his lifestyle has changed a lot from his former days, however he did manage to offend many of his neighbours around the area. He got into a fight with his neighbour after his failed attempt to transform a century-old Yew tree into the shape of a wine glass.
He shares a £350,000 flat with his mother and his salary is funded by the residents' association at the block of flats where his mother lives.
