Prince William’s military career

After graduating from the University of St Andrews in Scotland, the Duke of Cornwalljoined the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 2005. In December 2006, the young Prince was commissioned as a British Army officer.

In 2009, Prince William trained as a search and rescue pilot after he undertook an attachment to the Royal Air Force, according to Forces.net.

The heir apparent spent three years as a search and rescue pilot before retiring from active duty in 2013. Although, the Prince’s flying days weren’t over. The Royal retrained to become an air ambulance pilot and worked with the East Anglian Air Ambulance for over two years from March 2015.

An unusual place to vacation

Think campervan, but in a helicopter: a camper-copter. Although, the helicopter Sea King 137 has been retired and now doesn't leave its campsite.

A helicopter that cost nearly £5.5 million to build has been converted into a luxury ‘yurt’, per The Sun. It can sleep a family of five on its double bed, two bunk beds suitable for children up to 13, and a bench seat which can be converted to a third child's bed.

The helicopter has electric sockets, a kettle, a fridge, and heaters for the colder months. The communal showers and toilets are only a short distance away.

The cockpit is accessible, and children can play with the fully restored dashboard. Prince William flew the Sea King 137 during his years as a search and rescue pilot with the Royal Air Force. With it, Prince William helped save nearly 150 people.

The campsite is in Pinewood Park, Scarborough, with another Sea King helicopter that served in the Falklands.

Two nights in the helicopter cost holidaymakers £318 per night if booked via Host Unusual, according to The Sun.
