Prince Harry has been teasing us about writing a memoir that is believed to have the power to shake the very foundation of the Buckingham Palace since 2021. It looks like the time has finally come for his project to come to life as his publisher Penguin Random House has announced that it will be released on 10 January 2023.

Prince Harry's memoir: Spare

Ever since Prince Harry revealed that he was working on a memoir to portray his side of the story, royal experts, fans, commentators...well, the whole world really, has been speculating about what kind of bombshells this book would contain. Until the book is officially out in the public, we'll never know. However, the title of the book itself is quite telling in itself.

Titled Spare, several media including BBC and Sky News, have pointed out that it could be a reference to the popular phrase 'heir and a spare'.

Penguin Random House has said:

As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling - and how their lives would play out...
For Harry, this is his story at last.

Markus Dohle, chief executive of the publication, said, as quoted by Sky News:

Penguin Random House is honoured to be publishing Prince Harry's candid and emotionally powerful story for readers everywhere.

Explosive or empowering story?

Atypical to the Royal Family's stance of 'remaining silent', Prince Harry has been very vocal about his struggles as a royal, especially as a Prince who lost his mother at a young age. This book will dig deeper into those hardships that he faced.

SPARE takes readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother's coffin as the world watched in sorrow-and horror.

It is expected that Prince Harry's in-depth account into his childhood and life as a royal will invariably lead to a revelation of unknown truths about the mysterious institution that is the Royal Family. And while the release of the memoir was delayed because of the passing of the Queen, a project like this is and has been seen as a threat to the institution—especially now, given that King Charles III is very new to his role as the monarch of the country.
