An expensive wedding gift

Frogmore Cottage is a Grade II listed building located on the grounds of Frogmore House, which was built in 1680. It is known for its seclusion, peacefulness, and tranquillity. It is a very private Royal residence and benefits from being located within the Windsor security zone.

However, the cottage had to undergo massive renovation work before the newlyweds could move in. Up until then, the cottage was divided into a series of apartments and used as housing for workers of the Windsor estate.

According to reports, designer Vicky Charles was tasked with the cottage’s transformation. The extensive renovation work is said to have cost taxpayers £2.4 million. The cottage now boasts five bedrooms.

However, the cottage is currently empty, only used when Prince Harry and Meghan are visiting the UK.

Rare sneak peeks inside

Like many Royal residences, there are very few photos of the interior. But The Sun put together the snippets found on social media of life inside the cottage.

Frogmore Cottage belongs to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. However, when they decided to make their lives on the other side of the Atlantic, Prince Harry and Meghan allowed Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, to move in temporarily because it was bigger than their Kensington Palace cottage.

It’s thanks to photographs shared on Princess Eugenie’s Instagram account that Royal fans can get an idea of the interior décor.

Neutral colours, such as creams and blues, seem to be the predominant choice. There’s a homely feel with an abundance of cushions covering the sofa and a large bookshelf chock-a-block with bestsellers such as Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code and Kevin Bales' Earth and Blood.

In another snap, it seems like one of the five bedrooms has been transformed into a playroom for Princess Eugenie’s son August. A black and red carpet covers the floor.

And when back in the UK for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, Meghan’s friend Camilla Holmstroem shared a snap of the two of them with their children. In the background, a possible Matisse artwork hangs on the wall and an ornate rug is spread out on the floor.
