Prince Andrew is reportedly attending Royal Victorian Order's event today with King Charles, despite being shunned away from Royal public life. When Queen Elizabeth II stripped the Duke of his titles she apparently left him his ceremonial role in the 127-year-old order - the Knight of the Garter.

Prince Andrew to dress up as a Royal for Royal Victorian Order

According to The Sun, disgraced Duke Andrew is slowly 'worming' his way back to public life as he is set to wear his ermine robes for the Royal Victorian Order bash today. The Royal Victorian Order celebrates personal loyalty and service to the Royal Family.

In the event that would host around 600 people including King Charles, Prince Andrew will be allowed to dress up like a Royal for a day after months of missing such opportunities. Ex-MP Norman Baker said:

Prince Andrew is going to any length possible to worm his way back into public life.

He is simply being allowed to play dressing up as a royal for the day when really he should be serving a long period of silence.

Ingrid Seward, Majesty magazine, added:

He is a member, so they probably couldn’t stop him from going even if they wanted to.

What does being Knight of Garter mean?

MailOnline confirms as the Knight of Garter, Prince Andrew will be allowed to wear a set of velvet robes adorned with intricate royal details. These robes will signify his still relevant position as a Knight of the Garter. The Royal Family’s website confirms:

Knights of the Garter are chosen personally by the Sovereign to honour those who have held public office, who have contributed in a particular way to national life or who have served the Sovereign personally.

It also confirms that a knight’s achievements are only taken down at the time of his death and his insignia are returned to the Sovereign. Usually, a Knight of Garter performs significant roles during Coronation ceremonies as per the ancient order of chivalry dating back to 1348.

However, Prince Andrew will have ‘ no ceremonial role at the King’s coronation’ despite still holding the title.
