Tension between the stars

What fans didn’t know was the tension that plagued the set of Sam and Cat, a spin off show staring Ariana Grande and Jennette. While their main priority should have been the show, Jennette recalls having to decline outside opportunities for other roles while Ariana Grande was allowed to miss up to a week of filming while pursuing her singing career. According to Jezebel, this caused jealousy and tension between the two.

Jennette’s frustration was more so with the Network executives that forbid her from doing other projects while allowing Grande to blossom as a singer. Jennette notes that she did briefly explore the music world, going on to release two albums in 2010 and 2012, but ultimately, focused more on acting under the instruction of her mother.

A-List hangouts

The two actresses have long been compared, both growing up on Nickelodeon in front of cameras. Jennette describes their stark differences, one being different socio-economic backgrounds. McCurdy grew up in ‘Garbage Grove’ (Garden Grove southern California) supporting her family financially with her acting roles whereas Grande came from a stable financial background.

As Ariana’s star continued to rise, one of the main sources of jealousy for Jennette was Ariana’s connections specifically to the stars.

Jennette details how Arianna Grande spent an evening hanging out with Hollywood star Tom Hanks,

“I couldn’t take it anymore. Music performances and magazine covers... whatever, I’ll get over it. But playing a family game at National Treasure, two-time Academy Award–winner and six-time nominee Tom Hanks’s house? I’m done.”

More to uncover

While Jennette was incredibly vulnerable in her recalling of her life, readers are left wondering, what else happened on set? According to Page Six, the actress revealed that at the end of her time at Nickelodeon she was offered $300,000 to never publicly speak about her experiences on set. She declined.
