Will Smith's slap in the face of Chris Rock on 28 March made the news. The 'beating' of the comedian on stage at the Oscars ceremony gave rise to numerous reactions from artists. More than two months after the event, Jada Pinkett Smith spoke out for the first time on the subject.

On the set of her show, Red Table Talk, Will Smith's wife talked about their relationship, but also and especially about the slap her husband gave to comedian Chris Rock. She said on camera:

Now, about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile. The state of the world today, we need them both, and we all actually need one another more than ever.

Pinkett Smith's reaction to Rock's joke about her alopecia, which was the focus of the show in which she testified, was one of calmness. While she hopes that her husband and the comedian will be able to 'reconcile,' she also spoke about their ownrelationship:

Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s keep figuring out this thing called life together.

A committed fight against alopecia

Willow and Jaden Smith's mother used this episode of Red Table Talk to shed light about the disease from which she suffers. By her side, her daughter was present to testify, as well as a direct victim of the misfortune that a diagnosis of alopecia can bring. A mother came to share her pain after the suicide of her 12-year-old daughter who had the disease. According to her mother, the girl was 'bullied and harassed at school because of her hair loss.'

Pinkett Smith, who is committed to research into treatments for the disease, is not afraid to share her experiences and daily life in online programmes and podcasts on the subject.
