As the nation celebrated the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee anniversary, the duke and duchess of Sussex celebrated their youngest child Lilibet’s first birthday. Lilibet turned one yesterday and is understood to have celebrated her birthday with her royal cousins.
It’s informal and casual
According to The Sun, an informal and casual garden party was thrown to celebrate Lilibet’s first birthday. Guests were treated to a picnic of sandwiches and cake at the couple's former home of Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. There were picnic style snacks along with a birthday cake, balloons and party games. A source confirmed:
It was a lovely do and had everything you’d expect from a child’s birthday party.
But there was no formal entertainment. The idea was for it to be very relaxed and casual, with people free to pop in and out as they wished.
The party was expected to be attended by the following people:
- Zara and Mike Tindall’s children - Mia,8, Lena, 3, and Lucas, 1
- Peter Phillips and Autumn Kelly’s daughters - Savannah, 11, and Isla, 10
- Archie’s godfather Charlie Van Straubenzee
- Tom and Princess Charlotte’s godfather
The source added:
It was a nice opportunity for the other royal children to meet Lilibet for the first time.
This was the gift
As Lilibet turned one, it looked like the tot was in for some real treats. A source close to the couple told The Sun what she was expected to receive from her parents. The highlight of the low-key garden birthday party, according to the source, was something unique. The source revealed:
As her first birthday is such a milestone, there was lots of discussion ahead of time about the presents that she would be given on the day.
One idea that proved very popular was a £75 pink Volkswagen Beetle ride-on toy, which had been spotted in Selfridges.
