Chris Evans labels homophobes 'idiots' after backlash for Disney LGBTQ+ scene

Chris Evans slammed people for criticising LGBTQ+ scene in Buzz Lightyear and called them ‘idiots’. He also spoke about the importance of representation.

Captain America star Chris Evans has defended the LGBTQ+ community, this time in real life rather than reel life. Evans, 41, who’s voicing the main protagonist Buzz Lightyear of the upcoming animated Disney movie Lightyear recently went off in an interview with Reuters about the backlash the movie trailer received from several countries.

The movie features an LGBTQ couple that is considered inappropriate in a few countries, so this led to aban on the movie in 14 countries. Here’s what Evans had to say about this.

Disney takes a stand

Although he gave up the role of Marvel's defender, Captain America, Chris Evans still possesses many righteous traits of the character in real life as well. His choice to stand up to the backlash, that Lightyear received is proof of just that.

Chris Evans had this to say

As reported by The Guardian, Evans showed full support for the LGBTQ+ representation in the film. He called out the authorities who banned the movie for showing affection between a same-sex couple. He even called them ’idiots’ and said:

The real truth is those people are idiots. Every time there’s been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that’s what makes us good.
There’s always going to be people who are afraid and unaware and trying to hold on to what was before. But those people die off like dinosaurs. I think the goal is to pay them no mind, march forward and embrace the growth that makes us human.
