Donald Trump acquired a red Tesla Model S in March 2025 during a White House event where Tesla CEO Elon Musk showcased several of his company's vehicles. This purchase was seen as a gesture of support for Musk's business amid declining stock prices and dealership protests.

However, the past few weeks saw the two former best friends fighting like cats and dogs, and that’s when the luxury electric car disappeared from the lawn of the White House. The feud seemed to have ended after Trump wished Musk well, but the car was still nowhere to be seen. Here’s everything we know about it!
Trump’s Tesla disappears from the White House grounds
The red Model S was last seen on the premises shortly before a very public spat erupted between the two men.
As noted by Daily Mail, the vehicle was moved just hours after Trump casually mentioned the possibility of ‘moving the Tesla around a little bit.’ When asked about its new location, a White House official quipped:
We’re not playing Where’s Waldo. If you don’t see it, you don’t see it.
The flippant response only added to the intrigue surrounding the car’s sudden disappearance.
BBC’s Gary O’Donoghue also confirmed that the Tesla was no longer visible in its usual spot. This development came after it was suggested by the US media that Trump was considering selling the vehicle.

Despite its vanishing act, Trump insists he’s not getting rid of the Tesla.
The fallout has seen not only the car move but also raised questions about the future of Musk’s Starlink internet service at the White House. However, for now, Trump appears content to keep Starlink in place, if not the car. Speaking to reporters last week, he explained:
I may move the Tesla around a little bit, but I don’t think we’ll be doing that with Starlink. It’s a good service.
Pressed on what ‘moving it around’ meant, Trump was characteristically vague and said:
I have a lot of locations. I got so many locations that I don’t know what to do with them all.
The statement has led to speculation that the car could now be stored at one of his many properties, potentially Mar-a-Lago in Florida or his golf club in Sterling, Virginia.
According to Newsweek, Trump purchased the car amid a wave of backlash against Tesla, choosing to publicly align himself with Musk and DOGE—his Department of Government Efficiency initiative. But the bromance didn’t last.
The feud escalated when Musk accused Trump of being mentioned in Jeffrey Epstein-related files and called for his impeachment. Trump, in turn, accused Musk of being ungrateful and claimed he was ‘wearing thin,’ so he asked him to leave and he just went ‘crazy’ because of it.
