Rishi Sunak: The key people in the Prime Minister of the UK's life

Akshata Murthy and Rishi Sunak met at Stanford University in California. Murthy married Sunak in 2009. Her father is N.R Narayana Murthy, a founder of the massively successful IT company Infosys. 

Rishi Sunak appointed his long-term ally Oliver Dowden as his deputy after the resignation of Dominic Raab in April 2023. 

In November 2023, Sunak shocked the UK when he made former PM David Cameron foreign secretary. 

Akshata and Sunak have two daughters together, Krishna and Anoushka. Although the PM is very private about his children, we do know that they go to an elite £44k/year school with students such as Harper Beckham.

Shapps was fired by Liz Truss as transport secretary because he supported her rival, Rishi Sunak. Now, Grant is the UK's defence secretary.

As part of his recent reshuffle, Rishi Sunak appointed James Cleverly as home secretary. He replaced Suella Braverman.

Michael Gove works closely with Sunak as Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Suella Braverman and Rishi Sunak share Indian origins but do not see eye to eye. Braverman was sacked as home secretary after she accused the Met Police of bias in the policing of protests. She is always quick to criticise Sunak. 

Both from banking backgrounds, Sunak and French President Macron are said to get on well together. 

Penny Mordaunt is leader of the House of Commons, and has previously stood for the party leadership. 

Yashvir, Sunak's father, was a family doctor and then became a GP.
