With the film stirring attention ahead of its 2026 release, Domingo’s suggestion that Paris was 'very much in support' of the project has prompted a swift and firm response from the King of Pop’s daughter. In a series of pointed Instagram Stories, Paris shared her perspective and distanced herself from any formal association with the film.

As discussions around the much-anticipated biopic continue to unfold, here's what Paris had to say and what we know so far about the project bringing Michael Jackson's story to the big screen.

Paris Jackson responds to Colman Domingo's statement

Colman Domingo, a two-time Oscar nominee, is going to play the role of Michael Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson in the upcoming biopic about him. He recently told People Magazine that both Paris and Prince Jackson were 'very much in support of our film'. He added that Paris had been 'nothing but lovely and warm' and mentioned a brief conversation they had about her father.

However, Paris was quick to challenge this narrative. In a candid Instagram Story, she wrote:

[Colman Domingo], don’t be telling people I was "helpful" on the set of a movie I had zero percent involvement in lol that is so weird.

She went on to explain that she had read an early version of the script and offered notes on sections she found dishonest. She explained:

I read one of the first drafts of the script and gave my notes about what was dishonest/didn’t sit right with me and when they didn’t address it I moved on with my life. Not my monkeys not my circus. God bless and god speed.

In a follow-up video, Paris elaborated on why she had stayed silent until now:

There’s been a lot of responses to the thing that I posted about clarifying that I wasn’t involved at all, aside from giving feedback on the first draft and then getting the feedback that, "Yeah, we’re not actually going to address your notes at all."

She continued:

So I just butted out and I’ve left it alone because it’s not my project. So, you know, they’re going to make whatever they’re going to make.

Adding:

A big reason why I haven’t said anything up until this point is because I know a lot of you guys are gonna be happy with it.
A big section, the film panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy, and they’re gonna be happy with it.

While Paris isn’t involved in the project, it is being made with the support of the Jackson estate. Michael’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, is portraying the late pop star in the film.

What we know about the Michael Jackson biopic

Titled Michael, the biopic is directed by Antoine Fuqua . Apart from, Jaafar Jackson, the ensemble cast includes Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, and supporting roles by Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate, and Derek Luke.

The film is now slated for an April 24, 2026, release, after several delays. Lionsgate is handling domestic distribution, while Universal oversees international markets. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film underwent 22 days of additional photography in June.

Initially expected to cover Jackson's entire career, Michael will now conclude at the point he left The Jacksons following the release of his 1979 solo album Off the Wall.

Sources also claim that a second film, covering the rest of Jackson’s life and career, is already in development. Meanwhile, a previously planned third act was reportedly restructured to avoid portraying a real-life accuser from Jackson’s past, respecting a settlement agreement with the late singer’s estate.
