That being said, President Trump hit back against rumours that Melania wouldn’t move into the White House, claiming she was already making plans to redecorate. Despite Trump’s assurances, Melania has rarely been spotted alongside her husband during his second presidency.
The current circumstances have once again called into question the state of Melania and Donald’s relationship.
Melania has reportedly spent 14 days in the White House
President Donald Trump was sworn in on January 20, 2025; naturally, his wife, Melania, was present. However, various sources have claimed that the First Lady has spent less than two weeks in the White House.
Since Trump’s inauguration, Melania has been by her husband’s side on a few occasions, including the annual White House Easter Egg Roll and attending Pope Francis’s funeral.
According to The Independent, the First Lady is expected to return to Washington, D.C. on Thursday, May 15 to unveil a postage stamp honouring former First Lady Barbara Bush and attend a ceremony for military mothers.
It is believed that Melania has made Trump Tower in New York—where her son, Barron, is living while attending university—her main residence. As reported by The Times, President Trump spends many weekends at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, where regulars have claimed he doesn't often see Melania.
Before her husband was sworn in, Melania gave an interview with Fox & Friends explaining that she would be where she is needed:
I will be in the White House, and, you know, when I need to be in New York, I will be in New York. When I need to be in Palm Beach, I will be in Palm Beach.
A Trump biographer believes Melania and Donald are separated
Amid all the speculation, journalist and Trump biographer Michael Wolff told Daily Beast that the President and First Lady have a very unconventional marriage. Speaking to the outlet’s podcast host Joanna Coles, Wolff claimed that Trump’s marriage isn’t what society deems a marriage.
They clearly do not in any way inhabit a marriage as we define marriage.
He goes on to add that they most likely ‘live separate lives’.
And I think maybe we can more specifically say they live separate lives. They are separated. The president of the United States and the first lady are separated.
Coles then addresses the report by The Times that noted Melania’s ‘head-smacking’ disappearances and discovered that she had been in the White House for roughly 14 days in the first 100. Per The Times, Melania ‘vanishes from view for weeks at a time’.
I think the message was about how many times she’d been to the White House or how many days she’d been there in the first 100 days, right? And it turned out to be 14.
Speaking on The Times article, Wolff noted that it didn’t speculate the marriage is failing, despite the fact they ‘don’t spend any time together’.
But they didn’t go and say, ‘This is obviously a marriage in trouble. The American public has been sold a bill of goods here that, you know, Donald Trump and his glamorous wife.’ That runs entirely counter to all of the facts here, including the fact that they don’t spend any time together.
