After several years of relative discretion, Melania Trump has made waves by announcing Muse Films, her brand new film production company. The news broke at the end of November, shared in a brief video on X. And this surprise move comes with another twist: Muse Films is already working on a film centered on Melania herself. Coincidence? Not really—especially on the eve of a potential return to the White House during the 2025 inauguration.

Muse Films: Personal ambition or strategic move?

Why the name Muse Films? The answer lies in her Secret Service code name: “Muse.” This clever nod links her Washington past to a fresh start in Hollywood. As executive producer, Melania is taking the reins to tell her own version of her time as First Lady—a first for her in the documentary world.

The film, simply titled MELANIA, promises audiences a behind-the-scenes look: How does a First Lady prepare for her husband’s inauguration? How does the Trump family handle a return to the public eye? Even their son Barron is reported to be involved. The goal is clear: ultimate narrative control, just days before a pivotal moment in the Trump family saga.

An expensive documentary—and a likely controversy

This business move is anything but minor: Amazon MGM Studios shelled out a reported $40 million for the rights—a record sum for a political documentary. Why spend so much? Global curiosity about the Trump family, but also strategic advantage. The film’s theatrical release is set for January 30, 2026 (followed by Prime Video streaming). Reports suggest Melania could earn as much as $28 million from the deal.

The excitement at Amazon is hard to miss. A spokesperson commented to the press:

“Amazon MGM Studios is delighted to work with Mrs. Trump on this one-of-a-kind project.”

Of course, the partnership is already stoking political debate in the US, especially as some media outlets recall past friction between the Trump family and Jeff Bezos, owner of Amazon and the Washington Post.

Directed by Brett Ratner, the project marks his return after years away from the limelight due to misconduct allegations, which he has denied. His involvement adds another layer of controversy—hardly what the documentary needed to get people talking.

Melania Trump: muse or media strategist?

It’s hard not to see this launch as a calculated communications move. The goal? To redefine Melania’s image ahead of a possible second run as First Lady, with her own take on events.

“The documentary gives unprecedented access to the twenty days leading up to the inauguration,” as People summed up.

And Amazon isn’t stopping there—a multi-part docuseries is also in development.

So, is the documentary pure marketing, or a genuine effort to tell her story? Between tightly managed appearances by Donald Trump and Barron, an inside look at historic preparations, and the promise of exclusive footage, the public will decide soon enough. One thing is certain: Melania is far from done making headlines, now straddling the worlds of politics and entertainment.

Plot twist—or new beginning?

Muse Films may well transform Melania into a major player in political image-making in the age of streaming. A film, a series, an XXL paycheck, and all eyes on the former First Lady: the Trump saga continues—but this time, it’s Melania behind the camera.
