Radio hosts accompany us throughout the day, and even if you don’t know what they look like, you end up feeling like you know them. Whenever there is a change in the presenters who cover your favourite slot, it always takes some time to adjust, and Capital FM listeners will have to deal with that now as the Breakfast Show host Roman Kemp is leaving. Jordan North, who was recently unceremoniously axed from Radio 1, will replace him.

Roman Kemp announced his departure earlier this week, after 10 years with the station. Let’s take a look into his departure, and how Jordan North and Jamie Laing come into the picture.

Roman Kemp’s departure

After a decade in the position, Roman Kemp has decided to leave the show. While the reasons for his exit are unclear, he did say:

But I know that now is the right time to leave and now is the right time to move on

Live on Wednesday morning (21 February), he gave a warm welcome to his replacement:

You are going to absolutely love this Jordan. I have so much faith in you mate. It’s hard leaving, it feels like your child, but you want it to go into good hands and I know with you it’s going to be just that. Everyone, send as much love as possible to Jordan.

Jordan North seems ready for the challenge, stating that he is ‘beyond excited to be joining Global and to wake up the nation every morning on Capital’:

I can't wait to start working with the amazing team here and get stuck in, to create the most fun and entertaining breakfast show. Getting to host Capital Breakfast has always been a dream of mine and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that I simply couldn’t turn down.

Jordan’s exit from BBC Radio 1

This comes after Jordan was unceremoniously axed from Radio 1. His former co-star Vick Hope took to Instagram to express her disapproval of the way he left the show without a ‘proper goodbye’:

Absolutely gutted, to be honest. Our @jordannorth1 you’re a true @bbcradio1 legend, a dreamy co-host, and an incredibly special friend.

She added: ‘I’m so sad we didn’t get a proper on-air send off’.

Jordan has a lot of experience sharing his life and personality with fans. As well as previously presenting the drivertime show for Radio 1, he also co-hosts the hit podcast I Sexted my Boss! and had a very successful stint on the reality TV show I’m a Celebrity.

He marked the end of his Radio 1 experience with some heartfelt thank-yous to his ‘amazing fellow presenters’, including Greg James. He continued:

Most importantly, the biggest of thank yous to the fantastic listeners who have been really generous and always made me feel welcome, your kind words and messages have been so lovely.

On Friday, Radio 1 announced that Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing will be replacing Jordan on the drivetime show.
