Janet Jones and Wayne Gretzky: A journey on and off the ice

Wayne Gretzky and Janet Jones are both known are respected in their own fields, but they have stood by eachother’s side throughout the years. Here's what we know about the power couple. 

Wayne Gretzky was born on January 26, 1961, in Brantford, Ontario. He went on to become a hockey player who is in contention for the greatest hockey player ever.

Janet Jones is a renowned American actress from Bridgeton, Missouri. She was born on January 10, 1959. 

In 1984, Wayne Gretzky and Janet Jones encountered each other during Wayne's tenure as a judge on the hit television program Dance Fever. Janet was participating as a contestant on the show.  

Before she was with Gretzky, Janet Jones was with Vitas Gerulaitis—an American professional tennis player. They were engaged from 1985 to 1987. Years later, Gerulaitis unfortunately passed away at the age of 40 due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

In the same year,  Wayne Gretzky proposed to Janet Jones in 1987 during a flight to Los Angeles on a private jet. 

On 16 July 1988, Wayne Gretzky and Janet Jones exchanged vows in an opulent wedding ceremony hosted at St. Joseph's Basilica in Edmonton, Alberta. The extravagant event welcomed over 700 guests, and cost and estimated $1 million. 

Wayne Gretzky and Janet Jones have five children together—two girls and three boys. They are Paulina, Trevor, Ty, Emma, and Tristan.

Paulina Gretzky carved her path through modelling, acting, and social media influencing. Paulina shined the brightest within the modelling, with notable features like the cover of Flare magazine in 2013.

Paulina is married to golf star Dustin Johnson and they have two sons named Tatum and River.

Trevor Gretzky has chosen to venture into the entertainment industry as an actor and producer. Before this, he was a minor-league baseball player.

Ty Gretzky followed in his father's footsteps and became an ice hockey player for Arizona State. He then opened up a hockey academy for children which he runs today.

Spanning an impressive 21 seasons, Gretsky's illustrious career boasts an unmatched record of 2,857 points, comprising both goals and assists. Gretzky's mastery of the game was evident across various teams, including Edmonton, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and the New York Rangers. His exceptional talents were duly recognized with the prestigious Hart Trophy on nine occasions. 

At a mere two and a half years old, Wayne Gretzky first donned his skates under the guidance of his father, beginning his journey into the world of hockey. Impressively, by the age of six, he demonstrated his remarkable prowess on the ice, competing alongside boys much older than him in the all-star division of novice hockey.

In 1989, he hosted Saturday Night Live in front of audience of 20 million.

Wayne Gretzky showed great interest in writing and ended up publishing a few books, among them are 99: Stories of the Game and Gretzky: An Autobiography.

The Wayne Gretzky Foundation was created to raise money for underprivileged youth in Canada and teach them important life lessons through sports.

In the 2002 Winter Olympics it was Wayne Gretzky who carried the Olympic torch through Salt Lake City and lit the cauldron to announce the opening. 

While Wayne was dominating in sports, his partner Janet was taking the lead in entertainment. She Janet portrayed Judy in A Chorus Line in 1985 and the role of a dancer in Annie in 1982.

She also starred in The Flamingo Kid (1984) as Carla Samson. She made an appearance in Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach as Kate.
