Hugh Jackman and his skin cancers

First diagnosed in 2013, Hugh Jackman was 'lucky' in his misfortune. Indeed, that same year, on the set of X-Men, a makeup artist on the crew spotted an abnormality on the actor's nose, who then made an appointment with a doctor.

Jackman learned the terrible news: he had skin cancer and was operated on urgently. Even though he recovered, the actor got cancer another five times and required more operations. Since then, he has been hammering the same message: 'please get skin checks and wear sunscreen.'

The actor last got a biopsy and check-up in 2022, which came back as Basel Cell Carcinoma, which Jackman has had before. The star told his fans that it's not life-threatening, but it does need to be taken care of.

Jackman had to have the biopsy done a second time as they didn't go deep enough because he was in the middle of filming a new movie.

'I never wore sunscreen'

The actor has thus had six cancers on his face. In an interview with Le Parisien, Jackman reveals:

I have had five facial cancers. It is the least dangerous form, fortunately... it is the problem of an English skin raised in Australia,

The 54-year-old then added:

When I was young, I never used sun protection, I would get sunburned, peel, get sunburned again in the same place, and so on. At the time, we had less of a reflex to protect ourselves

He then explains that the consequences of not protecting his skin properly from sun exposure came back to bite him:

Except that the consequences of too much exposure to the sun do not appear until twenty-five years later ... I have nothing more for five years, but my doctor assures me that it will come back, even if I now avoid exposure
