Donald Trump fires Kamala Harris' husband Doug Emhoff from Holocaust Museum board of directors

Even before he was elected president, Donald Trump announced that he would be making some changes in the US if he became president. He has been causing a stir with a number of redundancies - including Douglas Emhoff, Kamala Harris' husband.

Donald Trump has now officially been President of the United States of America for four months. After a turbulent election campaign, in which the Republican almost became the victim of an assassination attempt, he was able to prevail against his opponent and former Vice President Kamala Harris.

Even before his second term in office, the Republican had announced that he wanted to change a number of things if he became president. Since Trump's election victory, the 78-year-old has repeatedly made headlines with his political decisions. He is currently causing a stir once again with redundancies.

Kamala Harris' husband dismissed from the Board of Directors

Back in February, Donald Trump, who recently caused a stir with his outfit at the funeral of Pope Francis, dismissed several members of the Board of Directors of the Kennedy Center in Washington. Now, the new US president has also fired several members of the board of directors of the Holocaust Museum in the US capital. According to reports in t-online magazine, Die Zeit and WDR, this includes Douglas Emhoff, the husband of former presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Doug Emhoff, who himself represents the Jewish faith, made the announcement on X. He was originally appointed to the Board of Directors by Donald Trump's predecessor Joe Biden, which is customary for 55 of the 63 members of the Council.

Douglas Emhoff suspects political motives

Douglas Emhoff himself suspects a political motive behind the dismissal and criticises this strongly on his X account. He wrote:

Today, I was informed of my removal from the United States Holocaust Memorial Council.

Let me be clear: Holocaust remembrance and education should never be politicized.

He also considers it dangerous and dishonourable to turn such a terrible act as the murder of six million Jews by the Nazis into a controversial topic. Douglas Emhoff himself also stated that, despite his dismissal, he would continue to work to uphold the memory of the victims of the Holocaust.
