In 2022, a recording of Britain’s Got TalentDavid Walliams making derogatory remarks about contestants was leaked. The recording dating from 2020, was argued to be of a private conversation never intended to be broadcast when Walliams sued Fremantle, the production company behind the widely successful show. The lawsuit claimed that private information was misused and argued that this leak breached the UK General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act of 2018. David Walliams claimed that the leaked audio caused him ‘psychiatric harm and financial loss’. The lawsuit was based on these damages for which Mr. Walliams sought compensation.

After winning the trial in November 2023, people wondered what could be next for the presenter. Now, not even a month later, Matt Lucas is stirring rumours saying that a Little Britain reboot is in the works!

Little Britain is making a come back

Speaking to The Sun,Matt Lucas said that a reboot of Little Britain is in the works. However, the controversial show - which showed David Walliams in blackface - will not come back the same. Indeed, Lucas admitted that the reboot will work to include a 'diverse range of writers and actors'.

Little Britain ran between 2003 and 2006 so it makes complete sense that its reboot will be different. Matt Lucas explained:

We are talking about how we can have diverse talent on screen and in the writers’ room and conceive it as something which is just not about me and David playing absolutely everyone.

The Sun also reports that some characters will not be making a comeback as they have caused upset. Addressing this, Lucas said:

Because some people are upset about what we do, or what we have done, out of respect to those people I don’t talk about it publicly because I don’t want to cause further upset to people who were upset.
I accept people feel very differently from others and I respect everyone’s opinion from wherever they come from on this subject. I see things differently now to how we did.

David Walliams' career possibilities

Even though a possible reboot of Little Britain is very good news for Walliams, there is still no date of release. All that has been announced is the fact that Walliams and Matt Lucas are working on it. Let's have a look at what David Walliams could do if the reboot doesn't go through.

Before becoming a judge on BGT David Walliams was an actor and television writer, he worked on projects for the BBC such as Little Britain and Come Fly With Me. He has also published children’s books with the latest coming this year and saw immense success as he has been described as ‘the fastest-growing children's author in the UK’.

While it can be difficult to predict what future endeavors Mr. Walliams will embark on, it remains true that there are a plethora of opportunities available to him. He can star or write in scripted shows for other networks such as the BBC with whom he has a previously established relationship.

Furthermore, his career as a writer shows no sign of slowing down, on the contrary with the release of his latest book The Blunders he is looking to add to his already impressive 50 million copies sold worldwide.
