Instagram users were quick to judge

Social media users were not impressed with the photos that Molly-Mae Hague posted of herself with boyfriend, Tommy Fury, while on vacation in the Maldives this past week. With news pouring in about yet another lockdown being reinstated after a hyper-contagious new COVID-19 strain has been plaguing the UK, fans were quick to put the reality TV star on blast.

One social media user wrote about the pictures posted:

This is so far away from reality for so many people right now, it’s like looking into a parallel universe somewhere.

While another commented:

The UK is falling apart but glad to see you are well.

Clearly, fans were having a hard time dealing with the struggles that COVID-19 has brought now that Christmas has been officially cancelled and these pictures only added insult to injury.

A response to correct a misunderstanding

But Molly-Mae did not back down without an explanation. The 21-year-old instagram influencer released a statement in a story defending herself by saying that:

In response to the messages I'm already getting about us being away throughout this time... Please understand that Tommy and I left the UK from Cheshire which was in Tier 2 at the time. We didn't break any rules coming away. If we knew these rules were going to be put in place then obviously we would have never left the UK. The minute we arrive home we will be following government guidelines.

Meanwhile, boyfriend Tommy Fury had his own message to fans who find themselves subject to the new restrictions imposed by the government:

So unbelievably sad to hear about the tier 4 lockdown rules being put in place for Christmas... what a way to end the year. I'm thinking of everyone at home right now, I know how hard Christmas can be for people without being apart from the people they love...

He ended the post by sending prayers for 2021 to be a better and more fruitful year for all.
