Persisting struggles with body image

She explains how, despite the fame and glamorous lifestyle, she sometimes has a hard time embracing her body and feeling good about herself. This is an issue that many of us struggle with, but it is also one that very few in the public eye talk about.

After last month's interview in Vogue Magazine where the singer discusses wanting to stray away from the 'body-positivity' movement and instead looking into ways of normalizing all body types, she admits to not being able to completely rid herself of the negativity surrounding her body-image.

She says in the video:

I came home and I took my clothes off to take a shower and I just started having all of these really negative thoughts about myself. Like, you know, 'What's wrong with me? Maybe everything, [and] all the mean things people say about me are true.' And, you know, 'Why am I so disgusting?' And [I was] hating my body.

How does Lizzo deal with these dark thoughts?

She then explains how she is usually able to lift herself back up from dark moments like these but that its also ok to experience them and ultimately grow fromthemtoo:

I think these are normal [thoughts and feelings] and they happen to everybody, they happen to the best of us. I can only hope that it changes for the better. I know I'm beautiful, I just don't feel it. But, I know I'm gonna get through it.

We commend Lizzo for being so candid and raw about a topic that remains taboo in society. It's not always easy to allow yourself to be so vulnerable in front of millions of people.
