We can’t deny it; we have all wanted to remake the end of our favourite films when they don’t end how we want them to. And that is definitely the case for lots of Titanic fans.
This is the film that, for a record period of 12 years, was the most successful film in cinema on the worldwide box office. It is the film that won 11 Oscars, including best film and best director. But it is also the film that shows one of the most beautiful love stories in the history of cinema, the story of Rose DeWitt Bukater and Jack Dawson.
An end that no one could get over
The film, although a huge success, has been the focus of much debate and interest for its brilliance, but also its controversial ending. Everyone has asked themselves the question at one point or another, why didn’t Rose let Jack on the door with her that she was using as a raft? Viewers believe that the door was big enough for both of the protagonists to fit on. So, was this a choice made by the director or a flaw in the props department?
A question that has gone on for far too long
As a guest on the Jimmy Kimmel show on the American channel ABC, actress Kate Winslet finally gave her opinion about the legendary scene in which Jack dies and was left to sink into the icy waters of the Atlantic.
The actress agrees with the vast majority of fans of the film that Rose could have actually saved her young lover by letting him get on the door with her. She goes even further though, claiming that her character deliberately let Jack die…
Many fans had been waiting for an answer, but were left in shock by the one they received… Although Jack Dawson didn’t survive, we find comfort nevertheless in the final scene where Rose meets Jack under the dome for a final kiss, in front of the whole crew on board the sadly famous RMS Titanic…
