Footballer turned instagrammer
As of February 2022, Cristiano Ronaldo has become the most followed person on the social media platform after having surpassed the 400 million mark over the last few days. As a result, the football star has taken to the gram to thank his followers for such an achievement. In the video post, CR7 said:
Hi guys, 400 million, wow. What a number. Now I can say siuuu. Well it's fantastic. What a moment for me, you know, without you this wouldn't be possible. So, from the bottom of my heart, I have to say thank you. Keep going like that.
And he even promised to stay as active and candid as possible with fans, saying:
I will share my life with you. All the things with you because you deserve it. So, thank you very much now let's do it for one hundred, two hundred millions. Thank you guys."

Who is trailing right behind?
The most followed woman on instagram is none other than Kylie Jenner (who also happens to be the second most followed person on the app) with 312 millions followers beating out older sister Kim Kardashian by over 20 million followers.
Coming in third place is Argentina's very own football star, Lionel Messi, who currently has 308 million followers.
With just a million shy from reaching the 300 million mark, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson comes in fourth place overall. Finally, rounding out the top five most followed people on instagram is Selena Gomez right behind the rock with 298 million followers.
