For her upcoming role as a depressed mother of three named Marlo in Jason Reitman's newest film Tully, Charlize Theron once again put herself through quite the hard time both physically and psychologically.
'I wanted to feel what this woman felt, and I think that was a way for me to get closer to her and get into that mindset', she claims. However, fully immersing herself into the role of a depressed mother may have had some serious consequences on her well-being.
'You know, it was a huge surprise to me. I got hit in the face pretty hard with depression. Yeah, for the first time in my life I was eating so much processed foods and I drank way too much sugar. I was not that fun to be around on this film'.
It took her nearly 3 months to gain the 3+ stone necessary to play the role. The actress hailing from South Africa had to go as far as to get up in the middle of the night to eat macaroni and cheese just to be able to hit her daily goal of calories. For her sake, let's hope it doesn't take her too long to lose all the weight!
