Loss of appetite or fussiness?

Just like humans, not all dogs have the same level of appetite. You can tell if your pet has low appetite if they are generally happy, and a visit to the vet’s shows they’re healthy and of normal weight. However, when they turn their noses up at the food in their bowl, but show an interest in what you or someone around them is eating, or their favourite treat, then they are being picky. There are many reasons why the latter could be the case, such as:

They’re just not that into it

It could be as simple as they not liking what you offered. Dogs are smart, and they know that if they are able to put off eating their meal for a while, you might give them the attention they desire or offer them a preferable alternative.

Bad memories

It could also be that the mere sight or smell of the food in front of them reminds them of an unpleasant feeling they got from eating it in the past. If that’s the case, you might want to alter the food a bit to reassure them.

Anxiety

You know how sometimes your nerves get the most of your appetite? Well, similar thing happens with dogs too. They tend to lose appetite when they’re nervous or anxious about fireworks, boredom, loneliness or separation anxiety knowing they might be left all by their lonely selves.

Age or poor health

There are other reasons like age or underlying health conditions that may cause your pup to fuss over what he eats. You should have them checked if their eating habits become worrisome.
