In an article in a French magazine, the charity that dedicates itself to caring for and protecting pets decided to publish quite an eye-opening list.
This list is made up of a huge selection of the worst excuses that members of the shelter have ever heard when someone comes in to abandon their pet, be it a cat, a dog or a rodent.
And this article from the magazine France Dimanche came at the perfect time.
Reducing the number of abandoned pets
The summer of 2018 was one of the worst summer periods for abandoning animals for all charity organisations combined. The number of cats, dogs, rodents, birds and other pets abandoned was at a terrible record high.
However, in the wake of Christmas, the same sad scenario is likely to repeat itself: some families are going to give pets as presents. An animal that, in many cases, will end up in a shelter or on the side of a motorway within a few months.
Raising awareness
So, to avoid this regrettable chain of events from happening again, an animal shelter in Marseille decided to fight back, by directly publishing the worst excuses they have ever heard to justify abandoning a pet on their Facebook page.
Among unawareness, stupidity, dishonesty or cruelty, here are a few quotes from the article…
‘It claws at the walls.’
‘It doesn’t do anything.’
‘I’m a mother, I run a business and I have hardwood flooring.’
‘She makes noise when she’s going to her litter box.’
‘My dog keeps wanting to go out during the night.’
‘He’s blind and deaf, so what do you want me to do?’
‘He’s 19 years old and meows too loudly.’
