On the 19th May, Windsor Castle will welcome around 2,640 guests to witness the historic event. All of whom, will witness the arrival of the bride and groom as the procession approaches the castle. Among those invited, 1,200 people are members of the public. These guests have been instructed to bring their own picnic as only light refreshments and snacks will be served.

A protocol strongly criticised by some guests who were quick to highlight the financial resources of the Royal Family. When interviewed by The Guardian Saeed Atcha, who runs an association in aiding the training and education of young people, said that some people from more modest backgrounds were stunned by this instruction. He said ‘They were saying, how come they have this money and you have to bring a picnic?’.
